The scenes between the creature and the blind man, played with earnest resolve by Chris Clare, are particularly effective because it is through this man’s kindness and the creature’s spying on the man’s family, that the creature learns about love. It may be the fault of Cooper’s script because Frankenstein is abhorred much too quickly and separates himself from his creation much too early for there to be a true battle of wills and wits. Austin Halarewich handles Frankenstein’s physical deterioration more effectively than the man’s earlier arrogance and bewilderment.
